Men’s Action Network (MAN) is looking to develop and expand its services to all council areas within Northern Ireland. In particular, we are looking for qualified counsellors who will help deliver our counselling support.

Call for Volunteer Counsellors (male & female)

For over 25 years Men’s Action network (MAN) has offered safe, supportive spaces to hear, support and enable men and boys to find a way forward with the life issues they experience associated with:

Addictions, Abuse, Anger, Crisis, Depression, Isolation, Suicidal Feelings, Self Esteem, Self-Development, Domestic Abuse/Violence, Sexual Abuse /Violence, Relationship Breakup, Family Breakup, Child Contact Issues, Emotional Wellbeing, Sexuality, Fathering Issues and Lifestyle Difficulties.

Men’s Action network (MAN) are looking for committed, passionate and professional counsellors to help us deliver professional support/counselling to, the often most hard to reach group, men.

We are committed to providing service users with a quality service in which every man is treated with respect and courtesy, receives fair, reasonable treatment, receives the highest quality of support to meet their needs and receives clear, accurate, timely and relevant information or help towards this end.

If you are a qualified counsellor with the minimum of a Diploma in counselling and a 100 hours’ post-graduation practice, and would like to join our team to support men in your local area, we would love to hear from you.

Position Requirements

Volunteer counsellors will provide specialist therapeutic counselling to clients within the context of a non-judgemental and confidential service within the current policies and procedures Men’s Action Network (MAN) and the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) ethical framework.

Volunteer counsellors will also undertake specific administration duties (as below) related to the counselling service including recording of case notes, contracting, user feedback evaluate progress for service users through the use of CORE evaluations and provide statistical case load information for monthly/quarterly counselling service reports relevant to the project

Will attend regular project team meetings within Men’s Action Network (MAN)

Will have a duty of care to all clients and be responsible to Men’s Action Network (MAN)

Will attend external clinical supervision sessions at a minimal of one and half hours per month and group supervision as part of the project requirements on one evening by two hours per month.

The post holder will be highly motivated, conscientious, meticulous, and flexible and have the ability to work on their own initiative

Undertake any additional duties which may be specified by the Management team

All counsellor duties must be carried out according to Men’s Action Network (MAN) Procedures including (but not limited to).

Processing the assessment of clients.

Managing client processes ethically.

Meeting clients at reception promptly.

Recording client notes according to ethical and legal requirements.

Completing client and counsellor paperwork appropriately and clearly.

Storing client and counsellor paperwork according to ethical and legal requirements.

Checking and recording client appointments.

Requesting client letters through the Management team.

Attending arranged Line Management Meetings.

Attending arranged Team Meetings, Training and Peer Supervision.

Providing required personal paperwork for personnel files.

Making appropriate use of the Counsellor reference/training resources.

Maintaining a good standard of housekeeping within the building to eliminate health and safety risks.

Disposing of flipchart paper ethically and legally after use.

Criteria

Please note that gender training will be provided in regards to work with men.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must have a minimal of an accredited Diploma level qualification in Counselling.

A BACP/IACP accreditation or be working towards an accreditation.

Have passed their Certificate of proficiency (COP) through BACP.

Have a minimum of 100 Post Graduate supervised hours.

Be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the BACP Ethical Framework.

Have an insight and experience of working with men.

Be able to demonstrate experience and an understanding of men’s issues including, relationship issues, abuse, addictions depression, anxiety.

Be able to undertake assessments including risk and/or suicide.

Desirable Criteria

Have an Advanced Diploma, Associate degree or foundation degree in counselling.

Have at least three years experience of facilitating counselling sessions with men.

Have had CPD training skills in working with men’s issues.

Have a good understanding of crisis intervention therapy.

Due to the nature of the post which involves working in a confidential environment, the post holder will be required to consent to vetting and pass an enhanced security check through Access NI.
